Sensual Winter

  • Understated
  • Contemplative
  • Quiet
  • Healing

Candlelight against Venetian marble, ivory cashmere, a fire on a frosty night, white china under a chef’s hand.

The project

Chef Andrew Black’s restaurant in Oklahoma City runs a blind tasting menu that declines to sit inside any one culinary tradition, and the room itself is warm and intimate and consistently unexpected. The identity in place, a grey monogram on grey, reflected none of that, and it is worth being precise about the failure, since the mark was not badly made. It was accurate to a restraint the restaurant does not actually practise.

The concept works from Sensual Winter, which holds precision and severity together with an unmistakable interiority, and it runs a thread of autumnal warmth underneath so the restraint reads as attention rather than as coldness.

Kosterina

An authentically Greek extra virgin olive oil with real provenance and culinary authority, and an identity that had drifted from both.
